The Pop-Up show Vessels is a collection of large fancy ceramic vases by Lauren Levine, most of which were made at the Ceramics Program, Office for the Arts at Harvard. The vases range in size from about 16”-22” tall. Each piece in this show is completely unique in form and surface treatment.
Artist Statement:
The vases in this show were made on the wheel with a process called coil-throwing. This allows the form to slowly take shape over many throwing sessions so I can create forms that I never would have thought of. Similarly with decorating, as each form is so unique, once a piece is bisqued, I will sit with it for quite some time until there is a clear direction for its surface. Once the pieces are done I'm always amazed at the impact each piece has on the space in which it is placed!
