    Free Fitness on the Plaza

    Harvard Common Spaces and Harvard Rec are offering free outdoor fitness classes on the Plaza on Thursdays throughout the summer. With a different class format each week designed to be inclusive of all abilities, there's something for everyone! Make the most of the warmer months by working out outside, beneath a shaded canopy.

    Film Screening: Carnival Night

    Carnival Night (Карнавальная ночь) managed to satirize Soviet life without offending the Politburo and was a box office hit. She invites viewers to slow down and meditate over the multiple layers in this painting and wishes to share with and inspire the community to keep their sense of wonder and be open to surprises that we encounter in our lives and our careers.

    The Harvard Summer Pops Band: Musical Moments

    The Harvard Summer Pops Band, now in its 47th year, is pleased to present the outdoor concert Musical Moments. The ensemble is conducted by the Director of the Harvard Band and Wind Ensemble, Mark Olson.

    The Harvard Summer Pops Band is comprised of approximately 130 members including students attending Harvard Summer School, area college students and community members of various ages.

    Film Screening: Jolly Fellows

    Prolific director Grigori Alexandrov scored his first major success with Jolly Fellows (Весёлые ребята). Alexandrov's wife, Lyubov Orlova, stars as Aniuta, a servant who falls in love with musically gifted young shepherd named Kostia (Leonid Utyosov). Aniuta is laboring under the misapprehension that Kostia is a famous conductor, and he certainly isn't about to set her straight.

    Contemporary Drawing: A Conversation with Tony Lewis and Matt Saunders

    Harvard Art Museums, 32 Quincy Street, Cambridge

    In this lecture, Tony Lewis, a Chicago-based artist, and Matt Saunders, an artist and the Harris K. Weston Associate Professor of the Humanities at Harvard, will discuss various practices and techniques of drawing. Considering their own work, Lewis and Saunders will explore some of the unique questions that the fugitive medium of drawing poses to contemporary audiences.

    This event is free, but seating is limited. Tickets will be distributed beginning at 5:30pm at the Broadway entrance. One ticket per person.

    Free, fun, family activities allow visitors to explore arts from the ancient Near East! Activities change daily: construct models of an Egyptian pyramid, inscribe clay tablets, or decode hieroglyphics.

    Activities take place on the first floor of the Harvard Semitic Museum. This HMSC museum explores the rich history of cultures connected by the family of Semitic languages. Exhibitions include a full-scale replica of an ancient Israelite home, life-sized casts of famous Mesopotamian monuments, authentic mummy coffins, and tablets containing the earliest forms of writing.
