    Ice Cream Social and Sing-Along

    Join the Harvard i-lab for ice cream and entertainment. The i-lab will be serving up scoops from Ben & Jerry's while pianist Phil Greenwald plays favorite family-friendly sing-along rock tunes.

    Join a Western Ave. Arts Walk during ARTS FIRST to learn about Allston’s public art! Pieces include both permanent and temporary works of art on view at the Harvard Ed Portal and Harvard Business School, as well as works affiliated with Zone 3.

    Student-guided walking tours are ongoing (departs every hour) and take one hour. Advance registration is preferred. Comfortable shoes recommended.

    Gallery 224 at the Ceramics Program, Office for the Arts at Harvard is pleased to present an exhibition of work from Montana-based potter Julia Galloway's most recent body of work, The Endangered Species Project: New England. Galloway works from each state's official list of species identified as endangered, threatened or extinct. She has created a series of covered jars, one urn for each species, illustrating the smallest Agassiz Clam Shrimp to the largest Eastern Elk.

    A Hundred Moons - A Kathak Dance Performance

    Location: 

    Harvard Ed Portal, 224 Western Ave., Allston

    Join the Harvard Ed Portal for a special evening celebrating Diwali, the Indian festival of lights! Diwali is said to be lit by the love that resides within each person. Dancer and Harvard Kennedy School student Neha Bansal will explore this idea with a performance of her original work A Hundred Moons, a dance in the Kathak Indian classical style. Bansal’s work uses traditional Indian symbols to tell the story of the love between two mythological characters, Radha and Krishna.

    Hacker Creations

    Location: 

    Harvard Ed Portal, 224 Western Ave., Allston

    In this workshop, students in 3rd-5th grade will make a 3D mosaic using recycled paper and computer parts! All the parts have been chosen with children in mind and are made from plastic, rubber and metal. Through observation, imagination, and experimentation, we will learn about patterns, contrasting shapes and colors, and layering in order to make an eye-popping creation!

    Exhibition Reception: Space for the Unknown

    Join us for a reception to celebrate the latest Crossings Gallery exhibition, Space for the Unknown.     Treasures and Tales

    Explore fantastic paintings and stories from folk tales and fairy tales, then imagine new ideas and endings for them!

    In partnership with Courtney Lee Weida and Dr. Carlee Bradley, join the Ed Portal for Treasures and Tales! In this interactive art workshop, 4th-5th grade students will explore themes in folk tales and fairy tales, then write and illustrate accordion books with their own magical stories. They will also learn to create symbol stone paintings and decorate gems with interesting words.
