    Gallery Talk: Media as Muse in 17th-Century Dutch Landscape Drawings

    Focusing on a small selection of drawings, conservator Penley Knipe will explore how Dutch artists of the 17th century creatively combined drawing media to dazzling effect in their pursuit of rendering local landscapes. Visitors will learn about well-known materials like charcoal and watercolor and lesser-known materials like gum arabic and “oatmeal” paper, as well as how the work of paper conservators advances research and scholarship.

    Virtual Reality Expedition to Ancient Israel

    "Travel" in fifteen minutes to an archaeological site in Ashkelon, Israel to explore the first-ever excavation of a Philistine burial ground. For years archaeologists have searched for evidence of these Biblical people. Transport yourself to the center of 360° scenes of an archaeological expedition while your gallery facilitator explains what you are seeing.     In a newly commissioned exhibition, artist Clarissa Tossin considers the ecology of an uncertain future. Inspired by Octavia E. Butler’s science fiction trilogy Xenogenesis (1989), in which the Amazon becomes the site for a new civilization of alien-human hybrids, Tossin speculates upon a postapocalyptic world following ecological collapse.
