    Crabapple and Maple Festival at the Arnold Arboretum

    Celebrate fall color at the Arboretum! Join the festivities for children’s activities, learn about the Crabapple and Maple Collections from staff and volunteers, and view our plants up close with our microscope station. Registration not required, but greatly appreciated.

    Guided Bicycle Tour

    Location: 

    Arborway Gate, 125 Arborway, Boston

    Come on a bicycle ride with Arboretum Horticulturist Brendan Keegan to learn how much of the Arboretum you can see by bike as we head into fall. You will make many stops along the way to admire the fall foliage and learn about plants in the collection. This ride involves several climbs (and descents) of our two large hills, Bussey and Peters. All types of bikes are welcome. Helmets are required.

    Preserving Plant Diversity

    Location: 

    Harvard Museum of Natural History, 26 Oxford St., Cambridge

    Join an exploration of plant diversity and an introduction to methods of plant preservation. Using plant cuttings brought from home, carefully observe and compare morphological characteristics, discuss why they may have been favored over evolutionary time, and learn how to press specimens for scientific study. Following the workshop, the group will tour the Harvard University Herbaria to learn about the importance of preserved specimens and to see how scientists use them for scientific research.

    Witch-Hazel Walk

    Join a docent tour through the Arboretum looking for the vibrant colors of the witch-hazel flowers. Learn about plants native to China and Japan, those from the Ozarks and Mississippi, and even one that was introduced right here at the Arnold Arboretum!

    The walk is geared toward adults, and starts from the kiosk in front of the Hunnewell Building at 125 Arborway. This tour is limited to 15 participants. We ask that you only register if you are sure you will attend, and only register one person per form submission. Masks are required if you are unvaccinated.

    Conifers in Winter

    Winter Wellness Walk

    Research in the Collections: A Scientific Exploration of the Arnold Arboretum

    Angiosperms and Gymnosperms: The Basics

    Rose Family in Bloom
