To celebrate National Hip-Hop History Month in November and the 50th anniversary of this world-changing cultural and artistic movement, we are offering the Hip-Hop Experience Workshop, facilitated by artist and singer Jazzmyn RED.
This session will highlight elements of hip-hop and take a closer look at the art of being an MC. Jazzmyn will discuss MC writing techniques, instrumental visualization, and how to find your flow. Participants will write their own 16 bars (16 counts of 4) to perform for the group.

The Program on Georgian Studies presents Georgian artist and Master Calligrapher Shota Saganelidze for a night of Georgian art and culture.
Shota's distinctive art style uses the three Georgian alphabets to create portraits of influential figures from Georgian history. Initiation – In Love Solidarity is a choreographic narrative exploring the embodiment of the Middle Passage, and the resilience and evolving identities of women in the African diaspora. A film component of the work was created at historic sites in New England related to the transatlantic slave trade and emancipation. The imagery of the cowrie shell is present throughout, chosen as an emblem of the transformative identity of the Black female body.

In this performance and discussion, “The Suffragists” captures the power and passion of American women’s fight for the vote through song. Created by the acclaimed singer-songwriter Shaina Taub, the musical tells the story of the last decade of the struggle through the rivalry between Carrie Chapman Catt and Alice Paul. Taub’s musical gives voice to these women in ways that powerfully resonate in today’s political landscape. The performance will be followed by a multidisciplinary panel discussion.
