Bright colors, transparent shapes, and distorted angles evoke questions about perception, memory loss, and transformation in this larger-than-life glass exhibit by artist Matthew Bajor. Inspired by a loved one's experience with Alzheimer's, Bajor's abstract art and uplifting kinetic sculptures encourage viewers to use love, empathy, and compassion to bridge lost memories and language.

Colonel (USAF retired) Terry Virts has spent over seven months in space during his two spaceflights, piloting the Space Shuttle Endeavour in 2010 and commanding the International Space Station in 2014/2015. He served in the US Air Force as a fighter pilot, test pilot, NASA astronaut, and is a graduate of the US Air Force Academy, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, and Harvard Business School General Management Program.

Drawing from an ongoing collaborative practice with 2022-23 Ceramics Program Artist In Residence Nicolas Touron, Amy Lemaire sculpts borosilicate glass which is combined with Touron’s 3D printed porcelain forms. This workshop will focus on the glassmaker’s perspective in the collaboration and the logistics of combining glass and clay together in sculptural practice. Using a table mounted torch, Lemaire will sculpt hollow glass forms using a process called flameworking. In this dynamic workshop, longtime friends and collaborators James C. Watkins and Paul Andrew Wandless will demonstrate how they use alternative firing methods and printmaking processes to address the surfaces of thrown and hand-built clay work.

Calling Allston residents! Take action in your community through a collaborative mug-making project with Allston artist Gustavo Barceloni. Sign up for a 15-minute one-on-one conversation with the artist about your history with Allston and aspirations for its future. Then, set your intention for positive change by pushing mark-making tools into clay slabs. In his studio, Gustavo will transform your stamped clay into a ceramic mug for his exhibition, A People’s History of Allston, at the Ed Portal this summer.

This workshop will consist of fundamental surface decorating techniques used to articulate an African aesthetic. Atoe and MacDonald will share their influences and how they each developed a decorating language that connects them with their heritage. The artists will demonstrate their individual carving techniques used to create rhythmic geometric patterns, including David MacDonald’s method using his handmade ebony wood carving tool. The artists will also demonstrate how they use slip trailing, stamps, and other techniques to create texture and visual interest.
Infinite Possibilities Part 1 is the first of a two-day event series, presented by Harvard Dance Center, introducing and inviting the public into the history, culture, and concepts behind freestyle dance.
