On Thursday, October 25th, afterschool program staff from various Boston Public Schools, Boston YMCA sites and the Bird Street Community Center, came together for the first meeting of the Boston Learning Community training series, convened by the school programs and professional development staff from Harvard Public Affairs and Communications. This is the first in a series of five related trainings to be held at the Grove Hall Community Center in Dorchester, part of the Boston Centers for Youth and Families.

This training series brings together a variety of speakers, all of whom will share current research surrounding the deep connection among social, emotional, and intellectual learning. Reinforcing the essence of SmartTALK, a program supporting homework and academics in out-of-school time, this speaker series will demonstrate that when you provide a positive, safe and relationship-based learning environment, you support students’ academic success.
